Tree work safety training for everyone on the crew.

An online course on ANSI Z133-2026, the safety standard for tree work. The standard is free to download but written to be looked up, not learned. This teaches it in order, for the first-day ground worker and the fifteen-year climber alike.

Why take it

Learn the standard properly, and take it with you.

  1. The whole standard, in order

Z133 is written to be consulted by people who already know the trade. Here it is taught in sequence, and each lesson runs the same way: a scenario, what the standard requires, what that means on the job, and where crews get it wrong.

  2. Current with the 2026 edition

Z133 was revised in 2026. The 2017 edition recognized three levels of electrical qualification, and the 2026 edition recognizes four. Somebody who learned this properly a decade ago learned a version that has since changed. Experience does not keep you current on its own.

  3. A record that follows you

People move between outfits constantly in this trade. When you pass, you get a dated certificate in your own name with a code any employer can check, so what you learned goes with you to the next crew.

  4. The ground crew is in it, not just the climber

Feeding the chipper, clearing the drop zone, setting up traffic control, standing near a truck that may be touching a line. Most of Z133 is work done from the ground, so the course is for everybody on the crew, first day or fifteenth year.

  5. The risk is on the record

Deaths, injuries and OSHA citations in US tree care are published by federal agencies. The data page collects them, dated and sourced, so you can weigh the risk from the record rather than from us.

The standard, taught properly, to everyone on the crew.

Where it fits

Alongside board certification and the tailgate talk, not instead of them.

Board certification is thorough and respected, and it is built for arborists investing in a profession — priced, paced and examined accordingly. If that is your path, take it. It was never meant to be the baseline for everybody on a crew.

The tailgate talk is a good habit, and it covers today’s job rather than the standard behind it. This course is the standard itself, for everybody on the crew.

Buying for a crew? The page for employers and the page for public crews cover crew pricing, quotes and purchase orders.
